Thanks for adding my Hatz to the Hatz web page. There is one thing I should clarify... I'm NOT the builder (although I will be the REbuilder in a couple years). The plane was originally built by Lewis Edwards in Nebraska between 1983 and 1990. The final entry in the builder's log says that the lane was test run and taxied a bit, then the weather got bad and the plane was put back in the shop. Shortly after that Mr. Edwards died of natural causes and never got to see the plane fly.
Since then the plane has changed hands three times and has suffered from some neglect. I've at least got it back to a point where it looks good (from 30' away) and is safe to fly. In two or three years it'll all come apart for a complete inspection, maintenance, misc improvements and recovering.
As for the serial number confusion, the plane was apparently built from plans #237... but for some reason it was registered with the FAA as 238. Not a big deal since the FAA s/n is builder-specific. Strangely, plans #238 were sold to a Mr. Edsel Ford in Oklahoma.

Hi Doug... I'm now a Hatz Nutz!
Yesterday I finished mounting/rigging the wings on N-76998. S/N is either 237 or 238; but nobody is real sure. Maybe 237.5. (I'll explain more when I have time). Before I fly it I've found a few items to correct and need to have my A&P give it an annual; so it may be a week or two.
The paint is in terrible shape (and will remain that way for a couple
years... my apologies to the other Nutz, since these planes deserve
better). It does have nice workmanship on the structure, O-290-D2,
stainless/streamlined wires, streamlined tubes, Cleveland wheels/brakes and a few other goodies. I've got a flyable project that will give me an opportunity to improve and customize to my own likings.Enclosed is a picture for your gallery. Let me know if you need a
better/bigger scan.Brad Kramer

A month or two ago I sent a photo of N-76998, s/n 237.5 for the photo gallery.
This just a SUBTLE REMINDER... I'M WAITING!!!!!
(sure, I can send another photo). In the meantime I've logged about 4 hours & 20 landings in the Hatz... and I'm having FUN. Also have spent MANY more hours giving the Hatz the TLC that's been missing since it first flew in '92.
Keep up the good work on the web page.
( Sorry about that, Brad. I've been out frolicking with the airplane instead of taking care of business here on the Hatz Homepage. It's that whole Springtime, walk-into-walls, talk to the birds thing. - Doug )
