Hello, Hatzers (and Kelly D'ers)
Summer is here and that means two of the biggest Hatz gatherings are coming up soon. The 9Th Midwest Regional, Brodhead, WI, including our annual meeting, elections, etc., will begin on Friday, July 20 and conclude Sunday, July 22. Many people come to this event on their way to the second event (almost as large as our Midwest Regional,) a little get-together known as Airventure in Oshkosh, WI. That begins on Monday, July 23 and concludes on Sunday, July 29.
The Midwest Regional is great because there are almost always a couple of HBA members giving rides in their Hatzes. It's also great because we can have a discussion of projects, finances, future officers, etc., in the wonderful surroundings of Brodhead's great little airport. It's all sod, exactly as an airport should be. They have room for camping; hookups for the fancy ones and dry spots for the tents. Food is served on the grounds, hosted by the local EAA chapter, and we share everything with the Pietenpol annual meeting.
The HBA puts together a camping spot each year at EAA. It is in the shade, which makes it special, and you will be surrounded by other Hatzers, but in order to get that primo spot, one of us has to run over to Oshkosh three or four days ahead of the show, pay big money and rope off the area we want. To be sure that we have the right number of spots, neither too many nor too few, we need commitments! If you're going to be camping at Oshkosh, please email Mark Marino (markm@hatzbantam.com) to let him know you're coming and how many spots you'll need. The HBA fronts the money for the camping, but you must repay HBA for the days you use the spots @$17/day! (That seems obvious, but based on past experience, it isn't obvious enough.) By the way, we'll have a little meeting of the Hatzers and Kelly D'ers on Tuesday, July 24, at the back of the Theater in the Woods, 10:00 a.m.
So, mark your calendars and plan to visit sunny (and hot) Wisconsin for one or both of these wonderful HBA events. Bring your sun screen, your bug spray, your floppy hat, and your flying Hatz or Kelly D! A good time is guaranteed!
Thanks,
Chuck
